BARNES BUILD

Here is another tight site. Once again I have not taken pictures of the foundations being excavated.

Footings have been laid and a block and beam floor has been constructed. We are out of the ground.

One of the advantages of a block and beam floor is the reduction of water in the building which assits in the drying out process.

A continuous polythene membrane is laid over the blocks then a 100ml polystyrene foam sheet on top, finally a 23ml tounge and groove floor board is applied to form the finished floor.

The brickwork begins to go up, progress always seems to speed ahead at this stage.

The scaffolding is going up but this was a very difficult site. See how close we are to the neighbours boundary and the other side is built very close to the hedge, we need to be very creative on this job.

Right now the site looks overgrown, but we managed to tidy up the site before we handed over the keys to the new buyer.

Just some of the scaffolding required to do this job.

Some of the internal blockwork, but not a Gordon Baily "moment," The shadow is a dead give away that this picture was not taken by a professional!

We continue to make progress, but finding room for all the deliveries of materials needs careful management on such a small site.

Here you can see my "trusty" conveyer belt or "bumper" which saves great time and energy to move building materials up top.

A closer shot which show a bit more detail.

Although this seems a small house from this view, the house is quite long and with good design made best use of available space. The house is a 3 bedroom with master bedroom en-suite. A large lounge diner and big kitchin, it is as our beloved estate agent friends might say "Deceptively spacious!"

From left to right:- Stuart, David and Daniel. Dan and David are my two sons.

What a wonderful summer that was. We are preparing the roof, the bumper was an invaluable asset.

Windows are in and roof is on. There is still some way to go but we are on the homeward stretch.

Another view, you can see the length of the building in this picture.

Site is still a bit scruffy, but we are nearly finished.

This is the finished house from the rear garden, we have put a neat little conservatory on the back. laid a patio and turfed the garden, it turned out ok.

Finished view from the front. Tarmac drive and landscaped.

From start to finish the build time was nearly seven months.
